WEST CHESTER, Ohio - A top high school senior and cornerback for the Lakota West High School Firebirds, was presented with a selection to the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl during a pre-game meal Sept. 18.

In front of more than 100 teammates, friends, family and athletic staff, Sean Mahone, received his selection jersey from Lakota West Football team alumni Sgt. Ethan Millisor, who is now a recruiter from the Marine Corps Recruiting Sub-Station in Fairfield, Ohio. The jersey was then presented a second time before the kick-off of that evening’s football game against the Princeton Vikings.

“First of all, I would like to thank the Marines for giving me this opportunity,” Mahone said. “I credit my coach, family friends and teammates because without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

Mahone became a Semper Fidelis All-American when, during a summer camp in Columbus, Ohio, he accepted an invitation to represent the East Coast during the upcoming 2016 Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl in Carson, Calif.

The Semper Fidelis Football Program focuses on mentoring exceptional youth athletes and future leaders by collectively celebrating academic excellence, proven physical fitness and quality of character. It also serves as an extension of the Marine Corps focus on developing quality citizens and reinforcing the value of public service.

Mahone is a native of West Chester, Ohio, and is the son of William and Kim Malone. The 6-foot, 190-pound cornerback has recorded 18 tackles, one 81 yard touchdown interception and a rushing touchdown in the first three games of his senior season. Mahone currently holds numerous offers from Division 1 colleges including Kentucky, Purdue, Virginia and West Virginia University.

“Sean, the commitment you have demonstrated on the field and in the classroom, the leadership you have shown in your school and community, and the courage you have displayed in choosing a life path, makes you an inspiration in your hometown,” Millisor said. “Just as the title Marine is ‘earned, never given,’ you can be confident that you have earned your place on this team and will proudly represent your community in this unique event. Congratulations on becoming a Semper Fidelis All-American. We look forward to seeing you in California.”

The Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl will be played Sunday, Jan 3, 2016, 9 p.m. EST at the StubHub center in Carson, California. The game will be aired Live on Fox Sports 1.
