JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. - Soldiers often face many challenges with their military careers from focusing on the mission, to being an outstanding mother and managing time with family.
Spc. Shayla L. Williams, Field Artillery Fire Finder Radar Operator Specialist, 17th Field Artillery Brigade, is a new mother in the military.
She said, “I am fighting hard to be the best mother and perform my duties at work. Being a mother in the military can be difficult. I drop my son off at daycare for 12 hours during the weekdays so I can accomplish my mission to be successful in life.”
Williams’s life can be challenging from having early mornings and late nights, dropping her son off at daycare, trying to achieve her degree and focusing on the mission at work.
“Often as time passes throughout the day, my son stays on my mind. Once I get off of work, I make sure I give my son quality time every day no matter how tired I am. My son and my family keep me focused and motivated so that I can continue my military career,” Williams said.
As she receives support from her family and friends, she continues to fight and works hard to accomplish her goals and dreams.
“I will not give up on my dreams,” said Williams. “As I pursue my dreams, I will continue to take out time on my lunch break to visit my son because he is my motivation, and I will continue to focus on the mission as a Soldier while being an outstanding mother.”
