RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany – U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz held a Ready and Resilient information fair at the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center food court, Sept. 11, here.

With September being Suicide Prevention Month, the Air Force and Army teamed up to raise awareness and provide useful information to service members and their families.

The fair consisted of different agencies providing individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to become more resilient.

“Today is all about resiliency,” said U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Edward J. Williams III, USAG Rheinland-Phalz garrison command sergeant major. “We have different units, organizations and agencies set up to discuss their services. We want to help and assist individuals with emotional, mental and physical concerns and teach them how to deal with different situations.”

The fair had representatives from agencies such as the Family Advocacy Program, American Red Cross, USO, Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention, Sexual Assault Prevent and Response and the Army Community Service.

“The agencies focused on resiliency and taking care of [oneself],” said Christopher M. Lavin, USAG Rheinland-Pflaz Suicide Prevention program manager. “Adequate sleep, a good level of physical activity and healthy nutrition can all contribute to preventing suicide.”

Williams spoke to all the vendors and volunteers prior to the information fair kickoff and informed them to be as helpful as possible to individuals seeking assistance.

“Nothing is permanent; everything is only temporary,” Williams said. “Whatever it is you are going through, we can assist you.”

While the agencies were only set up in the KMCC for one day, their services are always available to service members, civilians and dependents.
