ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. - A senior Defense Department counter Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) official visited the 20th CBRNE Command (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives) Headquarters here Sept. 15.
Dr. Wendin D. Smith, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Countering WMD, met with leaders from the Defense Department's only multifunctional formation that combats global CBRNE threats.
Smith is responsible for establishing policy to protect U.S. and allied forces against CBRN attacks as well as countering WMD trafficking.
With Soldiers and civilians on 19 posts in 16 states, the Aberdeen Proving Ground-headquartered 20th CBRNE Command deploys around the globe to counter Weapons of Mass Destruction, eliminate CBRNE threats and defeat improvised explosive devices, or IEDs.
"It was an honor to host Doctor Wendin Smith, DASD CWMD, at our headquarters and to tell her about the missions and capabilities of our command and the great work our Soldiers and civilians are doing around the world," said Brig. Gen. William E. King IV, the commanding general of 20th CBRNE Command.
