WHITEHALL, N.Y. - Seven members of the New York Naval Militia will be recognized as the organization's outstanding unit for 2015 during a ceremony at the Skenesborough Museum here on Friday, Sept. 4.
Rear Adm. Ten Eyck Powell, the commander of New York's state naval force, will present the Josephthal Trophy to the members of the Military Emergency Boat Service Detachment, Whitehall.
WHO: Seven Members of the New York Naval Militia's Military Emergency Boat Service who operate a vessel on Lake Champlain from Whitehall, and Rear Admiral Ten Eyck Powell, commander of the 3,000-member New York Naval Militia.
WHAT: Award of the New York Naval Militia's Josephthal Trophy. The award, which has been presented to outstanding members of the Naval Militia since 1929, takes its name from Rear Adm. Louis Josephthal who commanded the Naval Militia from 1925 to 1929, and who bequeathed $10,000 in his will to set up a trophy fund.

• And Petty Officer Garrett Aldershoff, from Scotia.
The New York Naval Militia:
The New York Naval Militia is the naval component of New York's Military Forces, which also includes the Army and Air National Guard and the volunteer uniformed New York Guard.
Most of the 3,000 members of the Naval Militia are also members of the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Reserve who volunteer to perform state missions during security or weather emergencies. Members of the Naval Militia use their federal military training to help the state of New York in times of need. Five percent of the member are retired military members who serve in state mission status only.
The Naval Militia operates a fleet of nine patrol boats which can support federal, state, and local agencies. Naval Militia members also serve in other capacities when required ranging from truck drivers to construction workers to nuclear power experts.
