    8th Theater Sustainment Command

FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii – The 8th Theater Sustainment Command Soldiers welcomed their newest command chief warrant officer at an assumption of responsibility ceremony Sept. 1 at Richardson Theater here.

Chief Warrant Officer 5 Daniel Villarreal assumed the responsibility of CCWO, becoming the unit’s second since 2014.

“Today, the 8th TSC and the Army celebrate a phenomenal Soldier, technical expert and warfighter’s logistician who truly exemplifies what it means to be an Army professional,” said Maj. Gen. Edward F. Dorman III, 8th TSC commander. “A leader who’s spent the past 27 years demonstrating the agility, adaptability and commitment to Soldiers and the mission that’s necessary for our Army to succeed in today’s complex world.”

As the CCWO for the Pacific’s senior Army sustainment command, Villarreal will be the senior leader for 99 chief warrant officers within the 8th TSC.

“I view this as an opportunity to show PACOM [Pacific Command] and Army leadership the value of having a command chief warrant officer at higher commands to assist with talent management, provide career guidance, and aid in resolving warrant officer issues and concerns,” Villarreal said.

Villarreal also said he will use his position to establish direct links and working relationship with the Army staff senior warrant officer, regimental warrant officers and career managers.

“I also view this opportunity as a way to help our Army move toward a formal Army-level command chief warrant officer selection process with capstone-type, mandatory training opportunities for selected CW5s, so we are better prepared to be the warrant offices our Army needs in order to win in a complex world,” Villarreal said.

Villarreal joined the Army in April 1988 as a field artillery cannon crew member and attended the warrant officer candidate course in October 1998.

His 27 years of experience have been served across many bases to include Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Fort Hood, Texas, Weisbaden, Germany and Camp Red Cloud, South Korea.

“I will lead from the front, do my best, and always be available to provide guidance, mentorship, and counsel,” Villarreal said.
