Lt. Col. Jason Good replaced Lt. Col. Dexter Daniel as Defense Contract Management Agency New Cumberland commander during an Army change of command ceremony at the Defense Distribution Center Susquehanna here.
The agency’s Chief Operations Officer Marie Greening attended the ceremony after conducting a Town Hall meeting to explain the agency’s Strategic Plan and field several team member questions. The streamlined command falls under DCMA Philadelphia and Army Col. Tonie Jackson, Sr.
Navy Capt. Michael Murphy, DCMA East Region commander, presided over the ceremony and served as the keynote speaker. His comments focused upon the importance of the agency’s mission and the challenges of command.
“The commander (no matter what the military service) is a professional who lives by an ethical philosophy who understands the importance of assuming authority, fulfilling responsibilities, and being accountable for his or her actions,” Murphy said. “These three characteristics are part of the interchange of thoughts and feelings between people and are the essence of the military fiber.”
Murphy commended Daniel’s extraordinary leadership during establishment of DCMA New Cumberland in 2012 and his mid-tour deployment to serve as DCMA Southern Afghanistan commander. Murphy then welcomed Good to his new command.
“Lt. Col. Jason Good comes to DCMA New Cumberland having demonstrated those qualities and experience required to execute the mission and assume the role of a Command Select Leadership commander,” Murphy said.
Jackson then informed attendees of Daniel’s many accomplishments as the contract management office’s first commander. “Serving as commander since June 2012, Daniel established multiple administrative processes while simultaneously supporting acquisitions of over 200 contractors with an obligated $17 billion in contracts through 100 plus civilian professionals. He deployed as the DCMA Southern Afghanistan commander in 2013 and returned to his stateside duties in 2014. The CMO generated more than $32 million in savings and cost avoidance, while ensuring the warfighters received affordable and effective products that were often going straight to the front lines.”
Good served as an infantry officer from 1998 to 2008 before transitioning to the Acquisition Corps and obtaining his MBA from the Naval Post Graduate School. He was previously assigned to the agency as Stryker Combat Vehicle program integrator at Anniston Army Depot in Eastaboga, Alabama, and as the Chief of Task Force Safety Actions for Fire and Electricity while deployed to Iraq.
Since then he has been assigned assistant product director for the Landing Craft Utility-2000 and program manager for Mobile Strike Force Vehicle.
DCMA New Cumberland is one of 31 Commands within the East Region. The command is responsible for the management of more than $17 billion in contracts, providing oversight of over 200 defense contractors. As a geographic contract management office, the command is responsible for over 24,000 square miles of contract oversight. The command supports 32 Acquisition Category I, II, and III programs supporting the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps.
