    8th Theater Sustainment Command

FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii – Leslie Nagamine, a budget analyst for 8th Theater Sustainment Command, earned the title of Category I Employee of the Quarter for U.S. Army Pacific during a town hall meeting at Richardson Theater here, Aug. 12.

A category I award recognizes employees in the grade of GS-11 (General Schedule) and below, while category II is for GS-12 and above.

Nagamine, who serves as the military training specific allotment subject-matter-expert with the unit’s finance department, is also responsible for the reviewing of Soldier’s travel requests to ensure proper funding and documentation. She focuses on taking care of the pre-departure administrative process so it is as easy as possible for Soldiers, which allows them to focus on military training without lingering distractions.

“Ms. Nagamine distinguished herself by implementing procedural changes, streamlined operations and assure regulatory compliance, resulting in more than 90 percent program improvement,” said Mary Weiss, the civilian human resources director for USARPAC.

This ceremony is normally done on a quarterly basis, which gives the leadership a chance to show their gratitude to those employees going above and beyond the standard.

“This is our chance to bring you together and say thanks in person and also to just interact with you directly, which is always a great privilege to do.” said Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, USARPAC commander.

Brooks said it was a challenge figuring out which employees would be awarded for the quarter.

“I’m so glad that it was a challenge for us,” Brooks said. “That’s a good challenge to have with so many great employees that we have a hard time picking the very best. When you have to go through that you’re reminded of the quality of the workforce.”

Ernest Vidinhe, the supervisory financial management analyst with 8th TSC, and Nagamine’s supervisor, accepted the award on her behalf.
