3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division

CAMP SHELBY, Miss. – Combat medics with the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division met with a senior flight medic from the 2nd Battalion, 151st Air Ambulance to train on a smaller, more agile medical evacuation helicopter, the UH-72 Lakota Light Utility Helicopter, Aug. 4 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, during the Exportable Combat Training Capability exercise.

About 500 Soldiers from the Greywolf Brigade are training at Camp Shelby with the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team, Mississippi Army National Guard. The brigades became partners more than one year ago in support of the Army Total Force Policy, and have been training together ever since.

Back at Fort Hood, Texas, 3rd ABCT medics trained on casualty care procedures on UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.

During XCTC, Soldiers are experiencing unique opportunities that allow them to train on a different airframe.

“We are conducting familiarization training, so that if, by chance, these medics have to work with the Lakota,” said 1st Sgt. Charles Bullock, a Corinth, Mississippi, native and first sergeant of Company D, 2-151st. “Safety and loading are the most important concepts they will learn.”

The main difference between the Black Hawk and the Lakota that affects the medics is the ease of movement around the aircraft that one experiences on the Lakota.
