CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait – The 140th Movement Control Team arrived at Camp Arifjan June 22 to become part of 419th Movement Control Battalion, 1st Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade. The unit adapted quickly to the intense temperature of Kuwait and started participating in a diverse range of physical training activities to increase their level of physical fitness.

Since then, the 140th MCT has continued their commitment to their training regimens; regimens include track workouts, weight-training, Zumba, treadmill workouts, jiu-jitsu, spinning classes or CrossFit. Each Soldier was given an opportunity to develop a daily training regimen unique to them but were required to keep a daily log of all the training they have conducted during that 24-hour period.

In order to promote excellence in physical fitness, the 419th Movement Control Battalion established an incentive program. The incentive program requires that each Soldier must log both 126 miles and 126 hours before Nov. 21. If Soldiers complete the incentive program, they will receive the Army Achievement Medal.

The motivation of each Soldier varied throughout the unit.

For some Soldiers they looked to other Soldiers within the unit as a source of motivation, whether it was a fellow Soldier or a leader. And for others, it was just a personal goal.

“I refuse to get old and fat,” said Sgt. 1st Class Otis Cadd, the 140th MCT detachment sergeant and a native of Hamlin, West Virginia.

His dedication to PT has resulted in continued attendance of numerous CrossFit sessions for the past four weeks.

Spc. Holly Gibson, the 140th MCT supply clerk, and native of Toledo, Ohio, derives motivation from Capt. Carla Gallardo, 140th MCT commander.

“I want to outdo ma’am,” said Gibson. “She is my motivation – especially at CrossFit.”

The fitness habits the Soldiers create now will benefit them greatly as they progress in their military careers and in their personal life.
