FORT BLISS, Texas - The 354th Military Police Detachment, U.S. Army Reserve, deployed to the Middle East to conduct a customs inspection and law and order mission, July 18, from the Silas L. Copeland Arrival/Departure Air Control Group.
First Lt. Michael Jacobs, commander, 354th MP Detach., hopes to have an incident-free deployment and ensure his Soldiers perform above and beyond the standard.
“I would like for the Soldiers to come back having achieved a goal of their own,” Jacobs said. “Hopefully they come back being better physically fit, mentally fit – whatever they choose to improve.”
One member of the 354th MP Detach. hopes to improve her squad with promotions and leadership training. Staff Sgt. Chelsey Snyder is a squad leader and has her Soldiers’ best interest in mind.
“Being a Soldier and squad leader, my primary mission is to take care of my Soldiers and make sure they are trained and ready to do their job,” Snyder said. “This is a great group of Soldiers. They work hard to accomplish the mission.”
Spc. Preston Glass has three years of military service under his belt and this deployment is his first.
“I’m excited,” Glass said. “Initially, I never thought I would do customs, but when I learned about it more, it made sense.” Glass is looking to obtain a federal job when he returns, adding that this deployment experience would definitely help him.
The last deployment for the 354th MP Detach. was in 2009 to Operation Iraqi Freedom.
