    Story by Sgt. Laura Gauna

    1st Marine Logistics Group

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – Major Gen. Vincent A. Coglianese relinquished command of 1st Marine Logistics Group to Brig. Gen. David A. Ottignon during a change of command ceremony at the 11 Area Parade Field, July 24, 2015.

Hundreds of Marines, Sailors, friends and family members attended the ceremony to bid farewell to Coglianese and welcome Ottignon as the new commanding general. The ceremony included the passing of the 1st MLG colors, remarks from the incoming and outgoing commanders, performances by the 1st Marine Division Band, a C-130 flyover and static displays depicting the various aspects of the MLG.

Coglianese, a native of New Jersey, has commanded 1st MLG since July of 2013. During his tenure, he provided reinforced Combat Logistics Battalions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He also maintained active engagement of OEF rotations, support to International Secutiry Assistance Force and supported the redeployment of Marine Corps Logistics Command Forward. He also sourced three Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – Central Command rotations in support of the I MEF CENTCOM mission.

Coglianese is firm in his belief that the Marines are the reason 1st MLG was so successful under his command.

“The Marines and Sailors you see in front of you are all riflemen who happen to do logistics,” said Coglianese. “These Marines, during a time of war, raised their hand and said, ‘Send me.’ They would go tomorrow if called upon, to take care of any bullies or terrorist that they need to take care of in this world. They are amazing and every one of them has a story. They are what make this command great.”

Coglianese has been chosen to serve in the Installations and Logistics Division within Headquarters Marine Corps at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.

Ottignon's previous assignment was as the Deputy Director for the J-3 Operations at U.S. European Command. He commissioned in the Marine Corps in 1987 from Ithaca College, NY, as a combat engineer officer.

Ottignon has been awarded a Legion of Merit with a gold star, a Bronze Star, a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, a Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, a Navy Commendation Medal, the Joint Meritorious Achievement Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal with a gold star and the Combat Action Ribbon.
