DAM NECK, Va. (NNS) -- Thousands of USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) Sailors and family members converged at Dam Neck Annex in Virginia Beach, Va., June 25, for the command's annual picnic, hosted by Lincoln's Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Committee.

The picnic, themed as "Skip Day", included activities such as horseshoes, tug-of-war, beach volleyball and paintball, as well as a chance to dunk Lincoln's Command Master Chief Lee Salas in the dunk tank; all free of charge.

"I look forward to these picnics," said Boatswain's Mate Seaman Delvin Durham. "Even though I work with these people every day, it's always fun being able to spend time with my shipmates outside of the workplace."

In addition to the various activities, crewmembers from Air Department defeated Engineering Department in the final game of Captain's Cup softball.

"I like the spirit of healthy competition," said Seaman Valeria Cano. "Everybody was cheering for one another. It's nice to see us working together."

Brooke Webber, Lincoln's fun boss, said she couldn't have been more pleased with the way her first command picnic as fun boss turned out.

"Being that this was my first command picnic, I was blown away by the participation and support from the entire crew," she said. "I was thrilled to see so many people show up and stay for the day."

Lincoln is currently undergoing a Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) at Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries in Newport News, Va.

Lincoln is the fifth Nimitz-class ship to undergo RCOH, a major life-cycle milestone. Once RCOH is complete, Lincoln will be one of the most modern and technologically advanced Nimitz-class aircraft carriers in the fleet, and will continue to be a vital part of the nation's defense.
