Army Reserve trains in the East Bay

    CAMP PARKS, CA, UNITED STATES

    07.23.2015

    Story by Maj. Gregg Moore

    311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command

CAMP PARKS, Calif. - More than 750 Army Reserve Soldiers, from throughout the United States, come together to train at three East Bay locations for two weeks beginning July 25. This is the second year for the "Big Logistics-Over-The-Shore, West" exercise taking place at Alameda Point, Military Ocean Terminal Concord, and Camp Parks, California.

The Army Reservists will practice seaport and harbor logistics operations which may be used for future expeditionary and contingency deployments. This includes loading and unloading cargo by truck and crane, a bare-beach landing, and many more related tasks. The Soldiers are working closely with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, and the U.S. Maritime Administration.

Soldiers and Army Reserve units are coming from throughout California, Washington, Virginia, Texas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Georgia, and Puerto Rico. For a complete list, see contact information below.

The Army Reserve provides critical specialized capabilities not present in the active Army, Army National Guard or elsewhere in the joint force. These capabilities include general purpose civil affairs, rail units, biological identification detachments, broadcast operation detachments, general purpose military information support operations, and theater engineer commands. The Army Reserve constantly trains, plans and prepares in order to deploy at any time, for any mission, where DOD requires its specific expertise.

Media inquiries are welcome and requests to visit the training will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Soldiers will be available for interviews. Stories, photos, and video will be made available at www.dvidshub.net/feature/biglogisticsovertheshorewest. Live training events will take place from July 30 to Aug. 4.

The point of contact for all media is Maj. Gregg Moore at 310-882-9580. Email: gregg.a.moore.mil@mail.mil
