FARGO, N.D. - Today the prestigious Pro Patria Award was presented to Border States Electric (BSE) in recognition of their outstanding for Guard and Reserve employees. The Pro Patria Award was presented by Bob Wefald, state chair of the North Dakota Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) at an awards breakfast in Fargo on Tuesday. Jason Stein, chief operating officer for BSE, accepted the award.

BSE was nominated for the highest award that can be given at the state level by 1st Lieutenant Maranda McDougall, who also nominated the company for the national level Freedom Award in 2014. McDougall is an officer in the 367th Engineer Battalion, U.S. Army Reserve, St Cloud, Minnesota.

“Sometimes I receive very short notices on upcoming training due to getting a last minute slot for a school, or the drill schedule changes.” explains McDougall. “My supervisors at Border States Electric have always been supportive and flexible to accommodate my schedule.”

“We encourage everyone to find ways to give back; all those who serve in the Guard and Reserve give back in such an enormous and important way – they give back to this country and protect our freedom,” said Jason Stein. “It’s not a sacrifice for us to be flexible with these employee-owners; it’s an honor ... The credit belongs to those who serve.”

BSE has 2000 employees at 80 locations in 16 states. In 2013 CEO Tammy Miller signed ESGR Statement of Support for all locations as a confirmation of their commitment to the employee-owners company-wide whom they share with the military.
