    28th Public Affairs Detachment

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. – “Change your leaves, keep intact your roots,” - Victor Hugo, French poet.

On July 14, the guidon belonging to the Warrior Transition Battalion made its way out of the hands of Lt. Col. Jeffrey L. Mosso, outgoing commander for the WTB, and into the hands of Lt. Col. Terrell G. Morrow, incoming commander for the WTB, during the battalion’s change of command ceremony held at Watkins Field on Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

A change of command ceremony is a military tradition that represents the formal transfer of authority and responsibility for a unit from one commanding officer to another, and also symbolically illustrates a continuation of leadership, trust and allegiance.

As a part of the ceremony, Col. Ramona Fiorey, commander of the Madigan Army Medical Center, relinquished Mosso of his command and entrusted Morrow with the responsibility of leading the Soldiers and staff of the Warrior Transition Battalion.

During Fiorey’s remarks, she took the time to acknowledge the various accomplishments achieved by Mosso, as well as, assure and assert confidence in the leadership capabilities of Morrow.

“At every juncture, Lt. Col. Mosso consistently led the way for accomplishing transitions, doing so in a way that was seamless to the Soldiers and their families,” said Fiorey. “He assumed command of a unit in 2013 that was - with a variety of challenges and he has turned it into one of high performance that has served Soldiers and their families extremely well, and inspired trust and confidence in warriors in transition as well the cadre.”

“As Jeff leaves this battalion, he is turning it over to the very capable hands of Lt. Col. Terrell Morrow,” said Fiorey. “Lt. Col. Morrow’s vary career assignments have prepared him well to command this battalion, but more importantly he sought out this opportunity.”

The WTB change of command symbolizes the start of a new chapter in the military careers for both commanders; Mosso will be moving on the becoming the deputy surgeon for the I Corps, while Morrow will officially be recognized as Lt. Col. Terrell G. Morrow, commander of Warrior Transition Battalion.

“Every unit has its own challenges and a mission,” said Morrow. “I’m looking forward to taking on those challenges and with this specific unit, I’m looking forward to its mission, which is helping Soldiers that need to take a knee transition back into the fight.”
