REGEN, Germany - Soldiers from the 702nd Ordnance Company (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) took first in the 42nd Jäger Gold Pokal Turnier shooting competition on 26 June 2015, hosted by the Panzergrenadierbataillon 112 in Regen, Germany.

Ninety-two teams participated in the competition, and included teams from Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Netherlands and the United States. The competition consisted qualifying on three different weapon systems: the G36 assault rifle, the P8 pistol and the MG3 machine gun. Each team consisted of four competitors. All team members competed in firing the assault rifle; two fired both the pistol and machine gun.

“The shooting competition was a great opportunity to expand our knowledge about the weapon systems our NATO allies use and maintain in their arsenals,” said Staff Sgt. Steven Shuler, a team leader and native of Franklin, North Carolina.

702nd Ordnance Company (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) sent two teams to participate in the multinational challenge. One of the teams, including Capt. Kevin Han, Staff Sgt. Steven Shuler, Sgt. David Borgeson and Pfc. Stephen Woolley, won the Nations Cup USA Division.
Spc. Mark Wong from 702nd Ordnance Company placed third overall out of 368 competitors in the G36 assault rifle category.

“The event enabled our unit to enhance cohesion between NATO forces in a fun but interesting way,” said Wong.

“It is paramount to understand the capabilities of our allies and their basic warfighting functions,” said, Spc. Austin Gardner, from 702nd Ordnance Company.

The challenge offered 702nd a chance to display one of the core competencies needed by modern warriors. The Soldiers proudly represented the702nd, bringing home the prized first place trophy.
