FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota National Guard's Child and Youth Program - with support from the 188th Army Band - this week will host a Military Music Camp for military children musicians at North Dakota State University (NDSU) in Fargo, North Dakota.

Media representatives are welcome to cover Military Music Camp activities at NDSU on Friday, July 10. For more information about event locations, or to coordinate a time for coverage, contact Christopher Hanson, N.D. National Guard Military Music Camp director, at 701-451-6063 or 701-306-7567, or email christopher@danoandchris.com.

During the weekend, U.S. service members' children musicians and vocalists will have the opportunity to broaden their musical horizons while interacting with other military children from across the state. The program also is designed to help attendees explore music and use it as a tool for resiliency, to increase self-esteem, learn the importance of team work and be introduced to new life skills.

A wide range of music fundamentals will be presented during the camp, including an introduction to military music, song writing and expression, performance technique and performance presentation. Coaches from the 188th Army Band's various components - a popular music group, brass group and woodwind group - all will instruct and mentor military youth during break-out sessions designed for a number of musical disciplines.

The Military Music Camp program will conclude July 12 with a 1:30 p.m. concert at NDSU's Babbling Brooks Outdoor Stage. The performance is free and open to the public.

The official mission of the 188th Army Band is to provide music throughout the full spectrum of military operations and to instill in Soldiers the will to fight and win, to foster the support of citizens, to promote national interests at home and abroad and to entertain audiences. In successful completion and ongoing fulfillment of that mission, the band has continued to provide music to the citizens and Soldiers of North Dakota for 128 years.
