MANDAN, N.D. - The public is invited to participate in the dedication of the POW MIA Memorial at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery July 3 at 11 a.m.
The memorial honors North Dakotans who were either prisoners of war or missing in action from World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm. There are 461 names on the wall.
The memorial is a joint effort of the Viet Nam Vets / Legacy Vets and Second Brigade motorcycle clubs. The clubs designed the memorial and raised the funds from private donors. The dedication ceremony is free and open to the public.
Lawn chairs are encouraged due to limited seating. Attendees are encouraged not to drive large vehicles such as recreational vehicles, campers or tow trailers due to constrained parking.
The North Dakota Veterans Cemetery is located 6.5 miles south of Mandan on North Dakota Highway 1806 and was established by an act of the 1989 North Dakota Legislative Assembly. The cemetery is administered by the office of the adjutant general.
