    525th Expeditionary Military Intelligence Brigade

FORT BRAGG, N.C- Just as North Carolina summers occasionally surprise people with thunderstorms, "Lightning Brigade" Soldiers surprised retiring 319th Military Intelligence Battalion Family Readiness Support Assistant Janis Alderson with gifts and an award.

Soldiers and Civilians of the 525th Military Intelligence Brigade gave Alderson a farewell ceremony in the brigade classroom June 29 here.

Alderson is retiring from civilian service after eight years of service with the 319th.

Col. James Walker, 525th Military Intelligence Brigade commander, commended Alderson for her hard work and presented her with the Commander's Award for Civilian Service.

"As Soldiers, we have our own creed but Civilians have their own creed as well and she (Alderson) embodies all these things in the Army Civilian Creed," said Walker. "About two weeks ago, we talked about her saying: 'I'm retiring June ... but I'll be back because that's what the Soldiers need ..."

Lt. Col. Joshua Fulmer, 519th MI Battalion commander, presented Alderson with a gift bag and praised her for her ensuring leaders were well informed.

"When it came down to communication and building a network of trust, you (Alderson) did that," said Fulmer. "You told leaders what we needed to know and gave us the resources to be successful."

Lt. Col. Jeffrey Fair, 525th Military Intelligence Brigade deputy commanding officer, presented Alderson with an Army rocking chair as parting gift.

"On behalf of the Soldiers, civilians and families of the 525th, I would like to present you with this rocking chair to relax in during your retirement," said Fair.

Alderson admitted to being appreciative of her time with the 319th and willingness to come out and help after retiring.

"It has been great here, in my heart I've got to be a part of that," said Alderson. "I'm going to miss y'all and I appreciate y'all being here, I've never had to go at this alone."
