MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. – Team Army rallied late against the Air Force but came up short at the 2015 DoD Warrior Games and fell 31-23 in their third game to determine seeding for the final tournament. The competition at Marine Corps Base Quantico was held on June 20.

Team Army trailed 17-10 but regained their focus to cut the score to 19-17 in the second half. Air Force held off the rally and pulled away in the final few minutes.

Team Army remained upbeat. After the game, coach Rod Williams stated that the team just needed to keep its focus, and they would come out winners.

Leading scorers for Team Army were Veteran Staff Sgt. Alexander Shaw, Clarksville, Tennessee, with seven points, and Cpl. Jasmine Perry, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, with six.

The 2015 DoD Warrior Games, June 19-28, is an adaptive sports competition for wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans. Approximately 250 athletes, representing teams from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Special Operations Command, and the British Armed Forces are competing in archery, cycling, track and field, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, and wheelchair basketball.

The DoD Warrior Games promote holistic reconditioning of wounded, ill and injured service members and Veterans by encouraging participation in physical and cognitive activities, inspiring physical fitness, mental strength, peer support and encouraging new opportunities for growth and achievement.

Most athletes have been participating in structured adaptive sports activities, providing an opportunity for service members and Veterans to renew their experience of support and camaraderie within the team environment, contribute to team success and demonstrate the “warrior ethos.”
