NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - As Sailors aboard aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) call their fathers this Father's Day, one Sailor coordinated a special message for her father, who has supported her naval career since she entered the U.S. Navy in December 2009.
Machinist's Mate 1st Class Alison Seaton, assigned to Reactor Department, requested to have her command ball cap, which she wore for the past two years while assigned to Abraham Lincoln and requested it be signed by Capt. Ron Ravelo, commanding officer, Abraham Lincoln as a token of respect for her father and his ongoing support.
"I call my father every day just to update him on what I did that day as well as to report on what his only grandson did that day as well," said Seaton, who also has sent a ball cap to her father from every command she has been assigned since entering the Navy. "I send him these ball caps because he knows I think of him."
Seaton added that due to the distance from where he currently lives and where she is assigned it helps to keep their bond strong.
"With the distance we have between us it keeps us close," said Seaton, who added that her father wears different ball caps every day. "People always ask him about the ball caps and how he is associated with the command. He shares with them information about my career in the Navy. He loves talking about my service."
Lincoln's commanding officer also wrote a letter of appreciation to Seaton's father thanking him for supporting his daughter.
"You should be proud of your daughter Alison," wrote Ravelo. "She is doing great things for us; definitely one of our superstars. I wish you all the best and wear her hat with pride."
Abraham Lincoln is currently undergoing Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) at Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington-Ingalls Industries in Newport News.
Abraham Lincoln is the fifth ship of the Nimitz class to undergo RCOH, a major life-cycle milestone. Once RCOH is complete, the ship will be one of the most modern and technologically advanced Nimitz-class aircraft carriers in the fleet and will continue to be a vital part of the nation's defense.
