CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Marines with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment participated in a squad and platoon level military operations on urban terrain training exercise aboard Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, June 11.The training consisted of Marines clearing rooms, entering buildings, conducting movements in an urban environment and multiple story operations.

Marines were taught to fight in more complex areas practicing transitions from safe areas to urban combat environments encouraging them to become more confident in a combat situation.

“The goal of this training is to get these Marines more proficient at performing proper military operations,” said Cpl. Jonathan Mara, an assault section leader with the company. “It’s important to have our younger Marines out here with us because this is a good military course for urban operations and terrain.”

Marines were training in a simulated village where they went on patrols and held defensive positions.

“This training is something that these Marines have been practicing for a while now and this is the first time that some of these Marines have gone out to a simulated town to apply their training,” said 1st Lieutenant Joshua Emison, a platoon commander within the company.

“As a whole this is going to make us a stronger battalion,” said Mara. “This benefits the Marine Corps as well because training like this helps ensure that that more service members come home.”
