    3rd Infantry Division

FORT STEWART, Ga., -- Fort Stewart and the 3rd Infantry Division gathered to officially welcome the 63rd Expeditionary Signal Battalion to the installation during the battalion’s Uncasing of the Colors Ceremony held here at the Marne Garden, June 5.

The 63rd ESB’s mission, to deploy worldwide by air, sea or land to install, operate and maintain command, control, communications and computer systems in support of full spectrum operations, has not changed. As a tenant unit, they will continue within the same organizational structure as they have in the past.

The 63rd ESB hails from Fort Gordon, so while their mission won’t change, they will still have to adjust to operating at a division-centric installation rather than the training installation they are hailing from.

“Although we are a tenant unit here, just getting the experience of being in a division environment is an awesome opportunity,” said Lt. Col. Tia Benning, commander of the 63rd ESB.

Benning isn’t the only one excited to have the 63rd ESB here at Fort Stewart.

“Although they are a tenant unit, we still look forward to training with them and appreciate the new capabilities having them here provides us,” explained Col. Kevin Gregory, Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield Garrison commander.

Having them here also adds strategic value to the installation, something that some would say is priceless in a time when sequestration and possible downsizing looms over Army installations.

“I think across the board the Army recognizes the power projection platform that Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield produce … it adds that expeditionary capability to Fort Stewart, and then we have the capability between us and Hunter Army Airfield to get them where ever they need to go around the globe,” explained Gregory.
