CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Several volunteers from across II Marine Expeditionary Force and Marine Corps Installations-East were recognized by their respective commands during an awards ceremony aboard Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, June 3, 2015.

The event was hosted by the II MEF commanding general, Maj. Gen. William D. Beydler. Beydler commended the volunteers’ hours of service and their desire to give back to their community.

“What I see in this room are people who are consistently willing to do more,”Beydler said. “To contribute to the common good and to make sacrifices for the betterment of those around them; that is something you can never have too much of.”

About 50 volunteers were recognized during the ceremony for standing out amongst the hundreds of total volunteers within the local Camp Lejeune area.

“As military personnel we focus day to day on the worst that is out there in humanity,” said Maj. Gen. Bryan D. Beaudreault, 2nd Marine Division commanding general. “It is nice to take a lunch opportunity to recognize the best in humanity, people who really represent the American spirit and are willing to give of themselves to assist others.”

The volunteers were called to the stage, presented with an award and personally thanked by their respective commands for their steadfast dedication and selflessness.

“Here at II MEF we have three priorities, readiness, readiness and readiness,” Beydler said. “When you think about readiness it really boils down to individual readiness, collective or unit readiness and readiness of families to withstand the rigors of this lifestyle and we would not be able to get to our imperative on readiness without our volunteers.”
