FORT BLISS, Texas – The 939th Military Police Detachment, Indiana Army National Guard deployed May 11 from the Silas L. Copeland Arrival/Departure Air Control Group airfield to Afghanistan to conduct a law and order mission that will also include customs inspection assistance.
The unit conducted the same mission in 2009 during Operation Iraqi Freedom, which was the last time the unit deployed overseas.
“My first goal is to accomplish the mission,” said Capt. Justin Roman, commander, 939th MP Detachment. “Also to take care of Soldiers and bring everyone home.”
Spc. Travis Abercrombie is excited about this deployment because it is his first deployment in his military career.
“My family is my biggest supporters,” said Abercrombie. “I love them, and I appreciate their support 100 percent.”
Roman agrees with Abercrombie, in which the families and friends of the 939th MP Detachment have been their biggest supporters. He also credits much of their preparedness to the efforts and training they received here.
“We appreciate all the support that Fort Bliss has given us,” said Roman. “All the players and actors that assisted us the entire way. We look forward to coming back with smiling faces.”
