BAGHDAD – Insurgents fired a series of rockets that struck areas of the Victory Base Complex and West Rashid in southwestern Baghdad at approximately 5:15 p.m. Feb. 18.

Initial reports indicate the attack killed five Iraqi civilians and wounded at least 14. Two U.S. Soldiers were injured.

Eight Iraqis, including six children, were taken to a coalition force medical clinic for treatment.

The coalition and Iraq Security Force quick reaction teams swept the area and captured several insurgents at the scene of the rocket launch. Six suspects were taken into custody for questioning and one unexploded rocket was recovered.

"These are indiscriminate attacks by criminals against innocent people," said Lt. Col. Steve Stover, MND-B and 4th Infantry Division spokesman.
