Soldiers provide immunizations during annual training event

FORT CHAFFEE, Ark. – Soldiers of the 213th Medical Company (Area Support) held a mass immunization event for the soldiers of the 87th Troop Command during an annual training exercise here.

“We are giving immunizations to anyone that needs them,” commented Pfc. Amesha Sifuentes, a health care specialist with the 213th Medical Company (Area Support). “We give all of the shots that are regularly given, like boosters or series, such as MMR, Polio, or Chicken Pox.”

The soldiers are thoroughly screened before they are given any vaccination to ensure the proper vaccination is administered and that the soldier is not ineligible for the vaccination.

“It can be kind of challenging because every person needs different things, not every person needs the same shots,” expresses Sifuentes. “I am helping with the medical records to make sure that they are screened correctly for the shots needed or not needed.”

The soldiers of the 213th Medical Company (Area Support) provide this mass immunization event as part of their training during their annual training exercise. Other aspects of training covered include land navigation; Nuclear, Biological, Chemical gas training; and hoist, liter and extraction training.

“It is very important for someone who has never been to AT to be here,” stressed Sifuentes, who is attending her first annual training exercise. “It is a refresher on some very important things, and if you don’t use it, you lose it.”
