FORT BENNING, Ga. – Rangers and their families spent a sun-soaked morning leaping from the airborne training towers, shooting weapons and tackling obstacles as part of the Regimental Special Troops Battalion’s Annual Family Day on May 16 at Fort Benning.
After the festivities, Rangers and families were treated to a barbecue and awards ceremony where spouses were recognized for their service to the battalion by Col. Robert Ryan, RSTB commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Robert Haynie, the RSTB command sergeant major.
Tameka Edwards, RSTB Family Readiness Support assistant, said, “We plan one major family day a year and other social events quarterly at the battalion-level. Each month we hold meetings to introduce new Rangers and their families to our team.”
The RSTB goes to great lengths to ensure its combat support and sustainment Rangers and their families build cohesive teams through planned family-focused activities year in and year out. Each company also plans a variety of activities for its Rangers and their families.
The 75th Ranger Regiment allows most enlisted Soldiers to start as privates in a Ranger Battalion and progress throughout their careers as a member of the regiment. That continuity provides a level of family stability unique to the Ranger Regiment.
“This is all we know. We love it here,” said a senior enlisted spouse who has spent more than 14 consecutive years in the greater Fort Benning area.
The RSTB is a unique unit force that conducts mission command, communications, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations in support of the 75th Ranger Regiment and other special operation task forces in order to enable the execution of joint special operations anywhere in the world. Additionally, the RSTB provides the Selection and Training Company, which is responsible for training Soldiers for entry into the Ranger’s four battalions.
