DECATUR, Ga. - In celebration of National Police Week, May 11 -17, the Atlanta VA Medical Center Police Department hosted a law enforcement display last week.
Police Lt. Eric Adams said he and other Atlanta VA police officers created the display as a way to say “thank you” to the veterans and employees they protect each day.
“National Police Week is an important time in the law enforcement community,” Adams said. It’s about honoring the countless police officers from all over the country who have given their lives in the line of duty and engaging with others who share a common brotherhood.”
National Police Week began in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation declaring May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week surrounding it as National Police Week.
