    179th Cyberspace Wing

MANSFIELD, Ohio – On Thursday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., members of the 179th Airlift Wing (AW) and 200th REDHORSE (RH) Detachment 1 will participate with the local community and area students to celebrate Earth Day 2015.

Over 100 members of the Ohio Air National Guard units are scheduled to work at 10 sites in Mansfield, Ontario, and Shelby. The 179th AW members will assist with a variety of projects which include planting flower gardens, mulching and beautifying local schools. While at the schools, members will work with area school children to help them understand the importance of the environment and how they can make their neighborhoods a better, cleaner place in which to live. For the fifth year in a row, the 179th AW and 200th RH are teaming up with the North End Community Improvement Collaborative (NECIC) to assist in the creation and maintenance of the area Community Gardens throughout Mansfield. NECIC Community Gardens Program Manager Jean Taddie may be reached at (419) 564-7707 for questions or comment.

This year’s celebration marks the sixteenth year that members of the Ohio Air National Guard units have participated in Earth Day. Even though the official Earth Day is celebrated on April 22, the 179th AW has moved the base celebration to May to work around Ohio weather issues and deployment schedules of unit members. All media outlets are invited and encouraged to visit any of the project sites.
