MIAMI - Brigadier General David W. Coffman, commander U.S. Marine Corps Forces South, presented the Bronze Star Medal with combat distinguishing device here to Capt. Jeremy L. Davis, a Mohave Valley, Az. native May 1, 2015.
Davis, the assistant future operations officer for MARFORSOUTH, received the award for heroic actions as the company commander for Company B, 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Marine Expeditionary Brigade-Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
From March 1 to August 20, 2014, Davis, who is a University of Arizona graduate, demonstrated superb tactical expertise and exceptional courage by leading his Marines in combat operations across Helmand province, Afghanistan. During one instance, Davis led his Marines across 200 meters of open terrain under accurate and effective medium machine fun and small arms fire. While exposed to direct enemy fire, he coordinated close air support while maneuvering his Marines and directing their fires to repel the enemy according to his award citation.
This is one of the many actions for which Davis received the U.S. Military’s third highest award for valor.
Davis, humble in his comments, expressed how fortunate he was to be given the opportunity to lead Marines in combat and was grateful to say that his company was able to bring all his Marines home safe.
