JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. – Vacations and trips are generally welcomed with open arms, but the hard work and preparation that often goes into planning a getaway can be overwhelming and even stressful.

The Leisure Travel Services on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, a service offered as part of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, provides a wide variety of amenities, including event and attraction tickets, trips and reservation services, to benefit the military community.

“We try to keep the cost down and make things easier, in other words, they get a better deal here than if they went somewhere else,” said Mickey Peebles, JBLM LTS manager.

The staff, to include Peebles and three others, have even went as far to challenge prospective customers to find a better deal than what the LTS offers.

“If you think you can find a better deal than you get here, then go on and try,” said Robee Cosby, JBLM LTS lead recreation assistant. “If you do manage to find a better deal, we will do our best to match it, if not beat it.”

The LTS doesn’t just stop at offering bargain deals to the military community, but they also provide a way for their customers to give back.

“There is a certain amount of money that goes back to helping service members,” said Peebles. “We take a certain amount and it goes to a fund in the MWR. So when Soldiers come and do business with us, they are actually giving back to their military community as well."

Peebles, who is a retired Army staff sergeant, explained that the lack of knowledge many service members have about the LTS center and other services alike, serves as a major downfall.

“We need to figure out a way to get service members to know and use the services that are provided for them,” said Peebles. “Maybe the sergeants out here can take the younger Soldiers on a tour, or set it up and have associates from different services, like this one, come out during sergeants time training and brief the units on what we offer. Because one thing is for certain, they need to use these services before they lose them. Use it or lose it!”

The LTS is temporarily located inside the Bowl Arena Lanes at 2272 Liggett Avenue on JBLM Lewis Main. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to contact the staff at 253.967.3085.
