KUWAIT - "2 Weeks Notice" is the latest local music crave here at Arifjan, Kuwait. The up and coming band made up of members from the 109th Transportation Company made their first debut at the 109th Transportation post-Christmas party on Jan. 6.

"We requested the presence of the band for our company Christmas party because in the last few months this group has achieved something like celebrity status around Arifjan," 1st Lt Andrew Horsfall said.

"2 Weeks Notice" features Spc. Brandon Misuraca of Gloucester, Mass., lead guitarist, Pfc. Christopher Cutlip and Pfc. David Slaughter of Round Rock, Texas, as the rhythm guitarists, Pfc. Austin Wilhelm of Houston, Texas, as the bass guitarist, Pfc. Geoffrey Edgar of Crowley, Texas, as the lead singer, and Sgt. William Harward of Elizabeth City, NC., on the drums.

The name for the band was inspired by the predicament the band was put in early in their start. The band was asked to play for the 109th Trans. Co. Christmas party with only a week's notice. "We agreed to play the show for the company, but we did not have good equipment, drums, a proper place to play, pretty much nothing," Lead singer Edgar said. The band was then given an extension, the party moved back, and that's where they were sold on their new name "2 Weeks Notice."

The band originated when the Soldiers found out they were not alone in their desire to play music. "Cutlip and I were playing one day outside the barracks and Edgar came along and became our singer," said Misuraca. The band slowly developed as more musicians in the company got wind.

The band's selection at the Christmas party included "Long Train Running," by the Doobie Brothers, "Midnight Rider" by Grand Funk Railroad, and "Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. The band members are currently in the process of writing their own songs.

"MIA" (Me-aah), written by Slaughter is one song the band has in the works. "We only have to add music to the versus, the chorus music is done as well as the intro which starts out with a bass line, played by Wilhelm," said Edgar

The band holds practice at the 109th Transp. motor pool. "An opportunity seemed to have arisen, Capt. Jerome Benton started showing up at our band practices to give vocal lessons. He kept coming until he said I had nothing left to learn from him," said Edgar.

The band used the Christmas party as a chance to tape a video that they eventually used for try-outs to play for the President last week. Though they were not chosen, (maybe because they did not have enough patriotic songs), it was still an honor to be considered for such an event.

From here the members of "2 Weeks Notice" plan to keep practicing when the whole band is not on the road pulling gun truck missions they and eventually will write and play their own songs. After deployment, "We hope to take the band back to Germany as long as we can keep it with the original people," said Misuraca.
