KABUL, Afghanistan – International Security Assistance Force Regional Command Capital soldiers rehabilitated 70 meters of footbridge crossing the Kabul River.
The damaged bridge was closed several months ago, which heavily disrupted the links between the villages on either banks of the river.
The Civil-Military Cooperation team of the Italian contingent based in Sarobi tasked local contractors to rebuild the wooden structure of the bridge. Works were funded by the Italian Ministry of Defense and were completed within two weeks.
The reopening ceremony held recently was attended by elders of the area's villages. They expressed their deep satisfaction with an ISAF initiative that will be highly beneficial to local trade by allowing more direct and faster access to the city of Kabul.
