    Guard Soldiers to conduct training at Kimball Bottoms south of Bismarck: Land area to be closed to public on Saturday, Sunday

    BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 188th Air Defense Artillery Regiment will be conducting field training exercises in the vicinity of the Kimball Bottoms recreation area south of Bismarck near the Missouri River this weekend. The training will begin 10 a.m. Saturday, April 11 and conclude approximately 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 12.

    Portions of the Kimball Bottoms recreation area will be closed during the hours listed above to vehicle traffic for the safety of the public. The river will not be closed or blocked, but boaters are reminded to exercise caution in the area. Warning signs will be posted in the area where more than 50 Soldiers will be conducting air defense training.

    These precautions will help ensure public safety. The public’s cooperation and understanding is appreciated.

    Since the 2001 terrorist attacks on America, the North Dakota National Guard has mobilized more than 4,000 Soldiers and more than 2,400 Airmen in support of the Global War on Terrorism. About 70 percent of all members serving today have joined since that time. Currently, about 70 North Dakota Guardsmen are serving overseas and more than 200 are serving in Washington, and on the southwest border of the United States. With a total force of about 4,400 Guardsmen, the North Dakota National Guard remains ready for stateside response and national defense. For every 10,000 citizens in North Dakota, 65 serve in the North Dakota National Guard, a rate that’s more than four times the national average.
