    216th Engineer Battalion

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe-based 1194th Engineer Company, Ohio Army National Guard, welcomed its new company commander this month, Capt. Todd Wynn.

Wynn takes over for Capt. Donald Westfall, who completed his command after a three-year tour. Wynn is from Salem, Ohio, near Youngstown. A graduate of Akron University, he is married and has three children.

Wynn has been in the Ohio National Guard for more than 18 years, and was originally an enlisted Soldier before he became a commissioned officer. His background in the military includes assignments in the aviation, infantry and engineer fields. Wynn recently returned from a deployment as part of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

“I am looking forward to commanding a unit like this,” Wynn said. “With this unit being a vertical construction unit, this offers many opportunities for us. Also, with the CERFP (which stands for CBRNE [Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear or High-Yield Explosive] Enhanced Response Force Package) search and extraction team, it makes commanding this unit a true challenge. I want to learn more about what the Search and Extraction team does and can’t wait to be a part of them.”

Wynn’s said his philosophy for commanding the 1194th is very basic: “Everyone should know how to do the job of their boss. They will not always be there,” Wynn said. “When it comes time for you to do their job, you should be able to do it with no problems.

“My vision for this unit is simple — believe that we should work on the fundamentals of our jobs and everything else will fall into place … We will be able to rise and overcome any challenge.”
