CP26 Road Show is solid gold at Fort Knox

    U.S. Army Career Program 26

WASHINGTON - Career Program 26 – Manpower and Force Management spoke about how to better manage Army civilian careers and resources, and answered questions during a visit to Fort Knox, Kentucky, March 24-25, 2015.

The U.S. Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) asked CP26 to speak at an American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) mini-PDI hosted by the Fort Knox chapter. Beryl Hancock, chief, Manpower Policy, Plans and Program and chief of the CP26 Proponency Office, welcomed the opportunity to attend this one-day professional development session. She opened her remarks to the more than 100 attendees by focusing on the relationships between those she maintains are the Army’s resource managers: Comptrollers, manpower and force managers, and personnelists.

“During these periods of cuts, the relationship between CP26 (manpower and force management) and CP11 (comptrollers) is increasingly more important,” said Hancock. “The focus of this briefing was to emphasize for those in attendance on how important these relationships are as we face resourcing challenges.”

According to its website, the ASMC is a nonprofit educational and professional organization for persons, military and civilian, involved in the overall field of military comptrollership.

In addition to speaking with the ASMC Fort Knox chapter, Hancock presented the CP26 Road Show to the local CP26 community.

The “road show” provided a review of tools civilians have for managing their careers, professional development within CP26 and advice on building a rewarding civilian career.

“The Army is changing the way it handles civilian career management,” said Hancock. “The road show is designed to help CP26ers understand the tools available to them so they can be better prepared as manpower and force managers.”

The road show is one of the CP26 Proponency Office’s many continuing efforts to ensure the Army’s manpower and force management community remain informed and engaged.

CP26 provides a professional cadre of manpower and force management professionals to design, develop and resource the Army’s operating and generating forces in support of the National Military Strategy. It is one of the Army’s centrally managed civilian career programs and is composed primarily of Management Analysts who work in one or more of the nine manpower and force management functional areas.

Because of this functional diversity, CP26 analysts work in a variety of organizations such as resource management, plans and training, and documentation at installations and major commands across the Army.

“I would like to thank USAREC and the ASMC Fort Knox Chapter for inviting me to speak,” said Hancock. “It is great to get out into the field and talk about what we do as manpower and force managers in support of the Army. By stepping away from the Pentagon, I am able to share what I know and learn what those doing this important work need in terms of professional development.”
