KUWAIT CITY – Explosive ordnance disposal teams from three nations responded to two vehicle born improvised explosive device scenarios during Exercise Eagle Resolve 2015 here recently.
Kuwaiti, Jordanian and Bangladeshi technicians worked through the scenario, which included two vehicle-born IEDs in a simulated public area of interest.
“In the scenario, one vehicle detonated and a second VBIED was found in the vicinity of the first one,” said U.S. Army Sgt. First Class Michael Wells, U.S. Army Central Command EOD section and scenario facilitator.
After the teams discovered the second VBIED, the Kuwaiti EOD team suited up and rendered the device safe with a bomb disposal robot and the Bangladesh EOD team collected forensic evidence. Then the team from Jordan conducted a post-blast investigation on the vehicle that detonated.
Wells said planning for the event began in November. Last week they conducted three classroom sessions of different IED and VBIED procedures, as well as two days of rehearsals.
It was a successful scenario, Wells said: Participating nations were able to rehearse EOD procedures, which strengthened cohesion of the larger group.
“It’s been really great working with these guys,” Wells said. “They are all very professional, and I would work with them again anytime.”
