ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. – The Airmen Committed to Excellence Council hosted a basewide career fair for all Airmen at the Freedom Community Center March 17.

The career fair consisted of Airmen presenting information about their jobs at individual booths to interested attendees and was intended to help direct Airmen who are thinking of cross training find more information on what is available.

A few of the Air Force specialties on display were the chaplain corps, public affairs, aerospace medicine, emergency management, public health, vehicle operations, aerospace maintenance, civil engineering and traffic management.

Outside the FCC, vehicle operations and air operations displayed a Humvee and a forklift, which attendees had the opportunity to learn about and explore.

“It’s informative. It gives people the knowledge of what’s out there and what the Air Force has to offer,” said U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Mitchelblake Sly, vice president of the A.C.E. Council. “You may find a different job that may be a better fit for the Air Force and yourself.”

Attendees also visited the fire station and the loadmaster and the boom operator simulators to get a hands-on understanding of the day-to-day life for Airmen in those career fields.

At the fire station, Airmen learned about the daily life of firefighters who work 48-hour shifts at a time, and were able to explore the fire trucks and the living quarters of the firefighters.

At the boom operator simulators, attendees learned about the training boom operators go through, and practiced refueling simulated aircraft themselves.

The career fair was not only for those interested in cross training into a different job, but was also meant to provide information and understanding of the Air Force as a whole and a way to network.

For future career fairs, the A.C.E. Council expressed a desire to invite more civil service members to attend to talk about options Airmen may have if they decide to leave the service.

“Everyone seemed to learn something. I definitely learned some cool things about the different career fields,” said U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Jason Easley, 97th Contracting Flight contracting specialist. “The field trip was really cool because we all do our part to support the mission, but in the simulators, you actually got to see the mission in action.”
