    FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Col. James E. Walker was born in Newport News, Virginia.

    Walker is a 1994 graduate of Virginia State University where he was commissioned as an Armor Officer through the Reserve Officers Training Corps. After completing the Armor Officer Basic Course, Walker was assigned to the 2nd Battalion 68 Armor Regiment, Baumholder, Germany.

    While assigned to 2-68 AR, Walker served as a tank platoon leader, mortar platoon leader and tank company executive officer and deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina in support of Operation Joint Endeavor.

    In 1998, following his assignment to Germany, Walker was assigned to Fort Huachuca, Ariz., to attend the Military Intelligence Officer Transition Course, Officer Advanced Course and Counter Intelligence Course. Walker was subsequently assigned to Fort Hood, Texas, where he served as a Battalion S2 in the 3rd Battalion 66 Armor Regiment, Direct Support Company Commander, A Company, 104th MI BN, and Brigade S2 for 1st Brigade Combat Team (Raiders), 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized). While assigned as the 1st BDE S2, Walker deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In August 2003, Walker moved to Fort Belvoir, Va., where he served as Aide-de-Camp for the Commander of Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM). Following his assignment at INSCOM, Walker was assigned to the United States Army Office of Military Support where he served as a current operations officer. In July 2007, Walker was assigned to the 704th Military Intelligence Brigade where he served as the Brigade S3 Network Warfare and Brigade S3. Walker’s next assignment was at the United States Army Cyber Command/2nd Army where he served as the Chief of Intelligence-Plans. In July of 2011, Walker assumed command of the 742nd Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort George G. Meade, MD. Prior to reporting to Fort Bragg, Walker was assigned to Headquarters Department of the Army G-3/5/7 as a Cyberspace Plans Officer.

    Walker is a graduate of the Armor Officer Basic Course, Military Intelligence Officer Transition and Advanced Course, Combined Arms Service Staff School (CAS3), Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the Eisenhower School, National Defense University. He holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Sociology from Virginia State University, Masters of Military Studies from Marine Corps University, and a Master’s of Science in National Security and Resource Strategy from the Eisenhower School, National Defense University.

    Walker’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (Five awards), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (four awards), the Iraq Campaign Medal, the NATO Medal and the parachutist’s badge.

    Walker is married to Lt. Col. Senodja F. Sundiata-Walker, currently a Product Manager, Medium Power Sources, PEO CS&CSS. They have two children, Kayla (9) and James, Jr (6).
