FORT CARSON, Colo.— Command Sgt. Maj. Scott Schroeder, U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM), talked with leaders and Soldiers while observing training and taking a tour of Fort Carson March 3-5.
FORSCOM is the largest U.S. Army command and provider of expeditionary, regionally engaged and campaign-capable land forces to combatant commanders.
Twenty-seven Fort Carson Soldiers had the opportunity to speak in an open forum with Schroeder during a meal at Wolf Dining Facility, where the CSM shared insights from his 31 years of service.
Schroeder presented a coin during the meal to Pvt. Nathaniel Eaton, petroleum supply specialist, Company A, 704th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.
Eaton said it’s not every day that you get the chance to talk with a member from the upper echelon of Army command.
“I really liked being able to talk with Command Sgt. Maj. Schroeder and hear what he has to say on topics, from Army downsizing to gender integration,” said Eaton. “I learned a lot from him.”
After attending a 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, change of responsibility ceremony Schroeder braved the snow to observe the Soldiers of 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 1st SBCT, 4th Infantry Division, during their platoon live-fire exercise.
Schroeder, along with Command Sgts. Maj. David M. Clark, 4th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Carson, and Daniel Hidalgo, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, walked the lane offering their guidance and expertise to the troops during the exercise.
Schroeder said that the training in inclement weather was a perfect example of Army resilience.
“Those troopers are really being put to the task,” said Schroeder. “Not only are they competing against the task, but also against the weather. This will be a live-fire that they will never forget. It will shape their memories and their career.”
Schroeder concluded his visit with an NCO forum with sergeants major from across all Fort Carson formations where he talked about the importance of training and how to better lead Soldiers.
