FOREST PARK, Ill. – The 318th Press Camp Headquarters marched in the Forest Park St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 7 at 1 p.m. The Forest Park Chamber of Commerce Parade featured bagpipers, police and fire, antique cars, the Proviso East marching band, and Medinah Mini Choppers put on the parade. This was the second year in a row the 318th PCH marched in the parade.
The parade lasted 60 minutes and took place in downtown Forest Park. The 318th PCH and other community organizations and business traveled down Madison Street. The streets were crowded with people overflowing from the sidewalks. Many of them wore green to show their St. Patrick’s Day pride.
For the majority of the Army Reservists marching, this was a new experience. The 318th PCH was joined by their down trace units: 340th Public Affairs Detachment from Millington, Tenn.; 372nd Mobile Public Affairs Detachment from Nashville, Tenn.; 367th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment from Whitehall, Ohio; 350th Public Affairs Detachment from Indianapolis; and 220th Public Affairs Detachment from Southfield, Mich.
The parade was the first community event the new 318th PCH commander, Lt. Col. Daniel P. Allen, participated in. Allen met his unit earlier that morning in a change of command ceremony held at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Forest Park. Allen is originally from South Side Chicago, but was recently an instructor at the Defense Information School in Fort George G. Meade, Md.
