F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. - The Transportation Control Function, which monitors 90th Missile Wing Airmen using government vehicles to travel in, and around, the missile field in Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska, transferred its operations from the 90th Maintenance Operations Squadron to the 90th Logistics Readiness Squadron Jan. 30, 2015.

All TCF units under the 90th, 91st and 341st Missile Wings are slated to move from MOS to LRS to standardize TCF operations across the missile wings, said Master Sgt. Adam Varga, 90th LRS vehicle operations supervisor. The 90th MW's LRS was the first to make the switch with the 91st and 341st scheduled to follow shortly.

TCF tracks personnel movements on and off base to ensure accountability of personnel and assets traveling throughout the missile field.

"It is the sole function for establishing travel conditions for military movements," said Staff Sgt. Aaron Smith, 90th LRS TCF controller and instructor.

The recent change was the outcome of discussions at an Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century event at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, which were targeted to standardize the TCF.

"[All three missile wings] had similarities in the way we operate, but we weren't exactly the same," Smith said. "The [transfer] helped TCF become more efficient and more effective."

Both MOS and LRS tracked different aspects of vehicle operations, but the function under the 90th LRS streamlines the process for Airmen tripping out to the missile field and avoids duplication of efforts, said Master Sgt. Dion Dorsey, 90th Maintenance Operations Squadron Missile Maintenance Operation Center non-commissioned officer-in-charge.

"TCF allows more flexibility in supporting those going out to the missile field," Varga said. "They come and get their vehicles here and talk with TCF, eliminating dozens of phone calls."

The Airmen previously manning the TCF returned to their original units and LRS's TCF Airmen have switched to a 24-hour work cycle from the previous seven-day-a-week cycle, to manage both the TCF and their other duties.
