FORT HOOD, Texas -- Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died Feb. 18 from a terminal illness in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
Sgt. Jason Alan Luong, 36, whose home of record is listed as Tucson, Arizona, entered active duty service in May 1997 as a Motor Transport Operator. He last served as a Public Affairs Broadcast Specialist and was assigned to Headquarters Support Company, Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, III Corps, Fort Hood, since January 2013.
Luong deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from November 2004 to November 2005 and from December 2007 to February 2009. He also deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from February 2011 to January 2012.
Luong's awards and decorations include five Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, three Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star, two Afghanistan Campaign Medals with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, three Overseas Service Ribbons, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with "M" device, NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge, Basic Marksmanship Qualification Badge and Driver and Mechanic badge.
