CAMP BULLIS, Texas – Command Sgt. Maj. Stephen Norris, 3rd Bn, 379th Regt. (LS), received the Command Sgt. Maj. Sally award, here Feb. 7, 2015.
“It is a very distinct honor to receive this award and to be held in high regard of company like Command Sgt. Maj. Sally and the company of others who have received this award since its inception,” Command Sgt. Maj. Norris said.
The Command Sgt. Maj. Morris Salley Jr. Award is being commissioned by the 80th Training Command (TASS) to recognize the battalion command sergeant major who most diligently carries out this charge.
This award will be presented annually in honor and remembrance of one of the most outstanding command sergeants major that has ever served in the Army Reserve. We were fortunate that he was part of the 80th Training Command (TASS).
“It is hard to accept the award because our success as noncommissioned officers is because of the hard work of our Soldiers,” Norris said. “My role as a leader and command sgt. maj. is to do what I can to ensure success of Soldiers by providing the motivation and mentorship to become our future leaders.”
“The Command Sergeant Major Salley award reflects the kind of leader who is on point for his or her Soldiers all the time, not just when they have to be,” said Command Sgt. Maj. James Wills, 80th TC senior noncommissioned officer. “In looking at the readiness posture of the 3/379th Regiment Battalion, it's clear to see that Command Sgt. Maj. Stephen Norris’ management of Soldiers is about taking care of our greatest asset, people.”
