CAMARILLO, Calif. – Seabees from Naval Base Ventura County were recognized at the Seabee Appreciation Dinner to help raise funds for Seabee ball at the Spanish Hills Country Club in Camarillo, Feb. 13.
The Seabees, from Naval Construction Group (NCG) 1, Underwater Construction Team (UCT) 2, Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC), First Naval Construction Regiment (1 NCR), Expeditionary Warfare Center (EXWC), Naval Construction Training Command (NCTC), Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 3 and NMCB 4 were all recognized at the event.
Retired Master Chief Equipmentman James Daniels, the oldest Seabee at the ceremony, was also recognized for his service. Daniels enlisted in November of 1942 and served in the Korean War in Vietnam. On Jan. 31, 1968, he earned a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during a rocket attack.
After the ceremony, an auction was held that involved different rare art pieces, sports, music collections and desserts to help raise money for the Seabee Ball on March 28.
“This was an opportunity to involve the community. Very often, we do a lot of fundraising on base and this was a chance for us to do some fundraising off base,” said Lt. Forrest Brown, assigned to NCG 1 and the event coordinator. “It was a good turnout, a lot of people, great atmosphere and overall successful fundraiser.”
The Naval Construction Force is a vital component of the U.S. maritime strategy. The force provides deployable battalions capable of providing disaster preparation and recovery support, humanitarian assistance and combat operations support.
