    100th Air Refueling Wing

MILDENHALL, Great Britain - Staff Sgt. Jayme Ross, 100th Logistics Readiness Squadron Allied Trades NCO in charge from Hartford, Connecticut, recently won his flight’s NCO of the month award.

His main role is to oversee younger Airmen in the shop and to ensure they are carrying out their assigned tasks safely and efficiently.

“I oversee the Allied Trades shop and am part of the general purpose vehicle maintenance team,” Ross said. “We provide around-the-clock vehicle maintenance support to all assigned 100th Air Refueling Wing and 352nd Special Operations Group mission units.”

Ross has been in the military for seven years and this is his second assignment, which has enabled him to accumulate knowledge he can pass on to other Airmen.

“I hope that the skills I have picked up along the way help improve the Airmen that are new to the shop,” the Connecticut native added. “I’ve gained a lot of knowledge in my Air Force career so far, and hope I can help others.”

His role is vital to the base’s mission. Aircrew and parts need to get to the aircraft, and without properly maintained vehicles, this would be impossible.

Ross is proud of the work his shop produces each and every day.

“The people here do a great job in ensuring vehicles are ready for customer’s in a timely manner,” the NCO said. “Everyone here is trained well, but are at different levels in their careers, so we all pull together to get the job done. We are pretty tight knit here. Everybody is always entangled with one another to help out.”

Ross enjoyed his time as a young Airman working with tools and maintaining vehicles; those days served him well. Today, he ensures the new shop members have the skills and knowledge to keep RAF Mildenhall’s vehicles mission ready.

“I make sure people are employed and the vehicles are getting fixed on time,” Ross said. “If anyone has any questions on how to fix something, then I give them a hand; I point them in the right direction.”

He has been encouraged in the right direction by his leadership, who find Ross a valued asset to the shop, and the Airmen he leads.

“Ross is a poised professional and has harnessed leadership qualities normally found in more seasoned NCOs,” said Master Sgt. Adam Morrison, 100th LRS Vehicle Management superintendent from Beckemeyer, Illinois. “His most significant contribution to the vehicle management flight has been his willingness to develop the fundamental technical knowledge and abilities of his fellow NCOs and Airmen. It’s because of him that we have bested the U.S. Air Forces in Europe 90-percent-and-higher fleet mission-capable rate standard for 20 consecutive months and securing a 97.5 percent rate for October 2014 which was the flight's highest rate in over six years.”

Ross’ success in the shop is down to his hard work and dedication to the mission. And he also enjoys his chosen career field.

“I love the job really!” Ross exclaimed. “I do it in my free time. I just like fixing vehicles. I love motorcycles and racing them.”

His leadership says the interest Ross has in his job makes him all the more successful in his work, and say it’s obvious to all that he brings this positive attitude to spread around the shop.

“Ross is exactly what today's Air Force needs ... smart, dedicated to the mission and able to work through any and all challenges thrown his way,” said Senior Master Sgt. Brian Spalinger, 100th LRS Vehicle Management flight chief from Clinton, Minnesota. “From the first day of his arrival at RAF Mildenhall, he has helped shape the vehicle management team and made us all grow leaner, faster and stronger.”

Ross is an example of how positive energy brought to a work center spreads to the Airmen he leads.
