KINGSLEY FIELD, Ore. - Oregon Air National Guard members have an opportunity to assist people in need by participating in the annual Governor’s State Employees Food Drive until Feb 27.
Master Sgt. Michael Moore of the 270th Air Traffic Control Squadron spearheads this year’s food drive for Kingsley Field.
“There was an opportunity, the base needed someone to head it up, so I took the opportunity to help those in need,” said Moore.
Moore says the food donated from Kingsley Field will stay in the local community and help the people of Klamath and Lake County.
Kingsley Field has historically stepped up to the plate during the food drive, their record year was 2012; members donated more than 2,500 pounds of food to help those less fortunate.
According to Oregon.gov, the Governor’s State Employee Food Drive was established by Gov. Atiyeh in 1982 and has become the largest state food drive for the Regional Food Bank Network providing more than 70 million pounds of food to date.
Members who would like to participate in this year’s food drive can get involved by dropping off none-perishable food items at drop off points located around Kingsley Field and the city of Klamath Falls.
Members may also donate financially through any chief master sergeant or by accessing the form for payroll deduction on the Kingsley Field share point. According to the Oregon Food Bank, a $10 donation can provide a food box equivalent to 30 meals, approximately 40 pounds of food.
