DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - According to the Marine Corps Recruiting Command (MCRC), African-American men and women make up 11 percent of the force. The Marine Corps recognizes that the recruitment of qualified and skilled leaders is essential to its future regardless of their gender, ethnicity, religious belief and social class.
Marines with Recruiting Station Jacksonville, 6th Marine Corps District, MCRC, participated in the United Negro College Fund Empower Me Tour at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida, Feb. 7, 2015.
The event allowed the Marines to get in front of an audience comprised of collegiate and college-bound minority students in order to encourage them to continue to pursue their education and to also consider the Marine Corps as a future career.
